Ten Makeup Don’ts
March 6, 2011 16 Comments
The line between a good makeup and a clown face sometimes is so thin, you can easily slip over. Funny thing is guys don’t fall for a girl just because she is an expert in cosmetics. Here are some useful tips to help you avoid crossing the line of good taste and stay on the “sexy” side:
1. False eye lashes
That is a major turn off for most guys. Avoid them no matter how tempting they might appear.
2. Bright red lipstick.
It might look good on Christina Aguilera, but she is famos with her plastered with makeup face. Red lips just show how desperate for attention their owner is.
3. Glitter on your eyes
It might be in fashion right now but no guy would appreciate a lady who uses all makeup trends on her face. Use it only if you are invited to a fancy cocktail party attended by Katy Perry as well.
4. Layers and layers of foundation
Of course you don’t want your partner to notice you small imperfections or last week’s zit that’s healing now, but do not over do it.
5. Over tanned skin
Looking healthy is one thing, looking like you just came out of the oven is another. Don’t stash your closet with self tanners. Rely on the good old sun to give you a nice and healthy look, use of course sun screen.
6. Combination of bright lip stick and heavy eye shadows
All experts will tell you that you have to put the emphasis on one or the other. If you go for a brighter lipstick, don not put too much eye shadows and vice versa.
7. Elizabeth Taylor eye liner
That is not in fashion since her younger days. Avoid it by all means. Also, I don’t think anyone wants to look like Amy Winehouse really

8. Pencil eyebrows.
This is a major turn off . Try keeping your eyebrows natural and in harmony wih the other parts of your face.
9. Difference in color of face and neck
Be very careful with foundation color. It is just unnatural to have a face two tones down or up than your neck or arms.
10. Follow the golden rule in makeup – less is better

I agree with you on most of these makeup tips. If I’m doing smoky eyes, I do subtle lips. And, if I’m daring enough to pull out the red lipstick, I do subtle lips. Makeup is fun, your face is a canvas….just not every woman knows how to balance it so you don’t look like a clown, like what you’re saying! Hehe…

Great advice and the photo of Amy doesn’t need a caption!
These tips are wrong! I also disagree with telling people what foundation/blush,eyeshadow,etc they should wear, its really tacky and rude.
These women that were posted look PERFECTLY FINE(except amy)! take their photos around the globe and people will agree with me. Some people prefer to look pale/paler…look at dita von teese for instance, she stays clear from the sun to avoid darkening in an interview she told reporters that. Some people like to be darker and sun kissed with bronzer on top of that, its your personal preference. Its just jealousy that someone would point that out, who is anyone to tell someone theyre wearing a too light or too dark foundation, because there is no such thing. Nicole and Sam from pixiwoo(huge makeupartists in Britain) sometimes wear paler or darker foundation and it looks gorgeous! as long as people blend it to the neck its fine….some people prefer to look bright and radiant rather than dim and dark/dull. People who are already light can wear any foundation they want and not look ashen
some people also naturally ahve a lighter face than their body and vice versa! these “tips” are bogus! thre is no rules in makeup!
you have no right to tell people not to wear faux lashes! every person wears them! these tips are dumb, and the person who made them is bitter and jealous!

i dont agree at all. red lipstick is a nice look if you dont put on any eye makeup. false eyelashes can make your eyes look prettier as long as they are natural looking lashes. if you have dyed hair sometimes you need to darken your eyebrows if you dont it will look dodgy. basically you just need to avoid extremes.
Red lipstick is very tricky. It is difficult to find the correct tone and texture matching your clothes, face, natural lip color etc. And you certainly can not go with a red lipstick without any eye makeup.
I think the same goes for false eye lashes and darkened eyebrows. However I agree with you that avoiding extremes is key.
yes its hard to find the right shade. but there is a right shade for everyone. i usually go with a bit of foundation where needed, some mascara and red stained lips with a slight hint of blush the same shade as the lipstick. think it makes people look like old hollywood stars. very feminine, but i agree with you if you exaggerate you might look like a clown. but there is worse makeup donts. ever seen women lining their lips in black lipliner. now thats a makeup dont. no doubt.
Pencil eyebrows are not a turnoff men usually do not realize this (mine are)..!!! As long as they match your haircolor though.
However, tattoo eyebrows are VERY noticeable and unnatural
Since men don’t notice your pencil eyebrows, you are really good at makeup
As you said, they have to match and some women just can’t get it right.
